At an undisclosed location in 2012, the founders of Slightly Husky were accosted by a major media outlet. The interview was never published (cause they hatin’), but we got the transcript for y’all:
Let’s get right into it. Tell me about Slightly Husky?
Slightly Husky is a living brand rooted in the regular and real.
What do you mean by “Regular and Real”?
Regular and real is just that, regular and real. It’s what we go through each and every day, it's embracing the authenticity in all of our shapes and sizes. Slightly Husky is not a schmedium brand.
Wait what do you mean by “schemdium?”
Well, Schmedium is a term used in communities like ours to describe when you buy an extra large shirt and it fits like a Baby Gap tee. We at Slightly Husky came to the conclusion that those products simply aren’t made for us.
This schmediumism is about more than the shirt, but also reflects society’s preferred identity and standards. We at Slightly Husky reject schmediumism in all of its forms, and openly embrace our identity in color.
What is this “identity in color”?
Uhhh… We Black. Don’t know what else to tell you bruh...
Our Blackness influences everything Slightly Husky is. Our experiences as young Black men in this country shape who we are, and every idea we cook up.
Oh! Ideas are getting cooked up, well that sounds delicious! *laughs*
Yessir. And smelling as good as grandma’s house on a Sunday afternoon. You know, our roots are in the deep south which means we’re people of the soil.
We’re out to get our piece of this country.
That’s a bold statement, huh?
You gotta be bold to be Slightly Husky in a schmedium world.
